The Khyber Pakhtun Khwa KP government has declared an extreme cold weather as the temperature has hit a freezing level in parts of the province after rain and snowfall.
According to the relief department of the province, an extreme cold weather emergency has been declared in the province, under which free food and shelter would be provided to the people living on the streets.
“The KP government desires that no needy person should be left without shelter and food and has directed Deputy Commissioners to establish temporary shelters (Panagahs) where they would be served breakfast and dinner and be provided with shelter for night stay with warm bedding.”
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority should provide required articles or funds to the Deputy Commissioners for making shelters operational. The district administration has been directed to coordinate with Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority for the purpose.
The deputy commissioners have been directed to provide Rs 100 for breakfast, and Rs 200 for meal.
Moreover, the notification stated that DG PDMA and Deputy Commissioners shall maintain proper accounts and inventory register of funds and articles for information and audit purposes.
Met office has predicted cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country during the next twelve hours.
However, rain and snowfall is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and its adjoining hilly areas. Fog is prevailing in few plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.
